Journal Entries (Desktop) ​

What it is: The module in Draftworx Desktop where you create and manage adjusting journal entries that modify the Working Trial Balance and flow through to the Annual Financial Statements.

What it's for ​

After a trial balance is imported, the figures often need adjustments — for example, to correct errors, record depreciation, split accounts, or book year-end accruals. Journal entries let you make these adjustments inside Draftworx without changing the original source data. Different journal types control whether adjustments appear in the financial statements, are returned to the client, or are held for review.

How to do it ​

Creating a Journal Entry (DX050) ​

  1. Navigate to Financial Data and select Journal Entries.
  2. Select the relevant tax year and choose a Journal Type from the drop-down.
  3. On the orange header row, enter a Description and Reference for the journal, then press Enter.
  4. Select the arrow on the orange data row to choose the first account from the Working Trial Balance.
  5. Enter the debit amount as a positive number. A warning appears if the journal is out of balance.
  6. Select the arrow again to add the credit line; enter the credit amount as a negative number.
  7. When the journal balances, the warning is replaced with a tick. Repeat for any additional lines.
